Christmas is my favorite holiday – and also the one
time of year that I would do anything to be with family and friends. This past year, it was even better because I
had some exciting possibilities to share regarding my job.
I was asked to travel the world, spending 2 weeks
in each city and conducting comprehensive reviews of each business unit. Is this job perfect for me, or what? Not only would it finally give me the
opportunity to shine on my own, but I would also be building a global network
and learning about my company on a level that no one else gets to experience. However, I had to remind myself that this is
not going to be just a big vacation!
The most obvious downside of the job is that I
would be spending a lot of time alone, without the chance to see any friends or
family for stretches of 3 months at a time. The other big negative is that I would basically have to critique the work of my colleagues around the world. Not exactly the
best way to make new friends!
All things considered, I knew I would probably take the job
but I bought myself a little flexibility with a 6-week stint in Mexico before
having to make a firm commitment. That's right. Six weeks in Mexico while Chicago battles through another brutal winter. I thought about the day I moved to Chicago in 2011 and smiled.
